Our Investment Strategy

We seek to invest in businesses with strong potential for significant growth. Typically these are privately owned companies, led by a high-performing chief executive, that are ready to expand production and marketing. Our investment will add value to the chosen businesses. We aim to invest in a broad portfolio of companies.

The fund’s investment objectives:

  1. To provide qualified investors with access to a diversified portfolio of high-quality growth businesses.

  2. To add value to the chosen investments, by providing capital, together with governance and/or management expertise.

  3. To provide investors with transparent, regular progress reporting through portfolio updates.

  4. To operate in a cost-effective manner

True North invests in high quality growth businesses.

We invest in privately owned businesses that have transitioned from early expansion mode. We will invest in businesses that want to fund expansion, make acquistions and positively restructure their business.

We believe that strong due diligence (prior to purchase), combined with our own business experience and ability to bring further capital to the table, reduces the risk and enhances the opportunity for success in our chosen investments.

True North Investment Focus
True North Investment Strategy

The investment zone as depicted by the shaded area is where True North invests.  High risk and low return investments are not in the target zone.  To deliver long term investments of between 15-20% per annum, True North is constantly looking for ways to shift businesses onto a higher growth trajectory, thereby creating greater value for investors.

The businesses that True North will invest in:

  1. Offer high-growth potential on capital invested.

  2. Have transitioned from startup to growth and/or maturity phases of the business lifecycle.

  3. Provide a direct management or governance role in the business for one of the TNEL directors.

  4. Exhibit a history of good governance, and improving financial progress.

  5. Invest in excellent people, including a high performing chief executive, who is preferably also a shareholder.

  6. Offer ‘investor-friendly’ shareholder agreements and constitutions.
